The Dashboard page provides high-level analytics for your Tableau environment. It allows you to monitor data connection usage, gauge the complexity of your calculations, and identify opportunities for optimization or cleanup.
Prerequisites
To populate the Dashboard, you must first process workbooks using the Database output type. This exports the necessary metadata to your configured MySQL, MSSQL, or PostgreSQL database.
How to Access
- Open RapidDox BulkPro.
- In the left navigation menu, under General, click Dashboard.
Using Global Filters
At the top of the page, you will find filters that control the data displayed in all sections.
- Metadata Source (Required): Select the database containing your exported metadata.
- Site / Project (Optional): Narrow the view to specific Tableau Server sites or projects.
- Click Submit to apply the filters.
Dashboard Sections
1. Data Connection Overview
This section helps you analyze data source usage and consolidation opportunities.
- Summary Cards: View total counts for connections, databases, tables, and fields.
- Top 5 Data Connections: Identify your most frequently used data connection. They are ranked by how many times each one is used in the Workbooks.
- Most Reused Tables: See which tables are most shared across workbooks.
2. Calculated Fields Insights
Use this area to assess the complexity of your custom logic.
- View the total count of calculated fields.
- Analyze the breakdown of calculations by data source.
- Compare Measures vs. Dimensions of Calculated Fields via the donut chart.
3. Dashboard Composition Stats
This section gives you a quick inventory of your presentation layer, showing counts for Workbooks, Storyboards, and Dashboards.
4. Data Quality and Optimization Indicators
This section highlights potential performance risks and cleanup targets using six specific visualizations:
- Unused Fields vs Total Fields: A donut chart showing the percentage of fields that are defined but never used.
- Unused Calculated Fields vs Total Calculated Fields: A pie chart highlighting custom calculations that are candidates for removal.
- Largest Workbooks by Component Count: Identifies heavy workbooks based on the number of Worksheets, Dashboards and Storyboards.
- Largest Workbooks by Data Source Count: Highlights workbooks connected to a high number of different data sources.
- Data Sources with Multiple Joins: Flags complex data models that might impact performance.
- Percentage of Workbooks Using Published Data Sources: Tracks the adoption of governed data sources versus embedded ones.
Exporting Data
Every card and chart on the Dashboard includes an Export button. You can click this to download the underlying data to Excel for offline analysis or reporting.
